Kirkjubøur, located on the south of Streymoy, is regarded as the' most important historical site Faroe Islands. Here you will find the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral, the Saint Olav's Chruch (Olavskirkjan), and the old 11th century farmhouse.
The island is characterised by its essentially flat landscape and green countryside. Sandoy is relatively flat. You will experience lush green valleys when drive through lakes and small villages. The highest mountain Tindur elevates 479 metres above ocean level.
Sandoy will give you solitude and contemplation. In order to get to Sandoy, you will take the ferry teistin from the Streymoy island to Sandoy island. Sandoy offers quite of contrast to the looming sea cliffs and steep mountainous passes that you have see most other places in the Faroe Islands.
Skálavík is a the end of a long grass valley. In order to get to Skálavík, you will drive for fifteen minutes from the nearby village Sandur. Beside fisheries, Skálavík is also home to the Hotel Skálavík.
Sandur is the largest and most important historical settlement on the island Sandoy. With several lakes and flat grass fields, Sandur is a oasis for Faroe Islanders when enjoying the holiday season. From Sandur, you have a nice view of the three small islands Skúvoy, Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun.
Streymoy is the largest island of the 18 islands that make up the Faroe Islands. It is situated in the middle of the archipelago and makes up 24% of the total land area and 50% of the entire population. You will find stunning sights on Streymoy island such as the villages Saksun and Tjørnuvík and the tallest waterfall Fossá.
The best known attraction on the island is the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs in the village Vestmanna. Streymoy is connected by roads to two neighbouring islands Vágar island and Eysturoy island by a 5 kilometre (3,1 miles) sub-sea tunnel and a 250 metres (820 feet) bridge, respectively.
This is the village where the boat the Sandoy island arrives to. This harbour village is the youngest settlement on the island. From Skopun, you can enjoy a great view of Streymoy island and Hestur island. The nearest village to Skopun is Sandur. There are several small fishing boats in Skopun owned by the locals.
