Explore the untouched nature in the Faroe Islands as you glide through the beautiful and tranquil lake Sandsvatn. You will get a hands-on experience of the pristine natural wonders on this much appreciated lake on the island Sandoy.

You will pick up your kayak at our base by the river bank just outside the village Sandur. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced paddler, this is the perfect adventure for those seeking something truly unique on their Faroe Islands journey.

All kayaks are single person boats. You will spend 3 hours in the kayak and enjoy the scenic view from the lake where you will see the drenched river bank and the low mountains surrounding lake Sandsvatn.

Our sea kayaks are the safest on the market and are quick-to-learn. Perfect for adults and children aged 7 and more. Getting on the water is also easy in these kayaks.

Lake Sandsvatn is situated behind the local beach. Sandsvatn is a long and shallow lake rich in trout and every spring the last resting place for whooper swans on their way to Iceland.

There are small valleys around you so that in the interior Sandoy gives a softer and more rounded impression than most of the other islands. As Sandoy is the most fertile island in the Faroe Islands, you will enjoy the rich bird life and the flora around the lake.

In order to get to Sandoy Island, you will drive through the sub-sea tunnel linked to Streymoy Island. The tunnel portal is located at Gamlarætt ferry port on the west side of Streymoy Island. There are also busses to Sandoy departing from the bus terminal in Tórshavn.

You will do this kayaking experience independently. Exploring this remote and amazing lake in a kayak is a quite remarkable outdoor activity.

Head out on this great kayak adventure available all year round. Book this unique paddling experience by adding to your cart.

    Thank you very much!
We enjoyed and we were lucky to have sunset, amazing pictures as well.

excelllent due to the flexibility of the host. 😉
Getting to the island is a bit of a puzzle because as a tourist you can seriously get stuck in the booking (im)possibilities for the ferry.
Host ended up having to help us book a returnticket and told me he had done it many times before.. you probably heard that one before 🙂

Friendly and reachable host, equipment in great condition, easy to find. Took two boys aged 11 and 12, who also fit in the kayak by themselves.

  4. Annika Winther Klit

The surroundings are fantastic, and the equipment was good

Our guide was wonderful. He met us right on time, and he helped us get in the water and made sure that we were able to stay dry, move, and not flip over. He had plenty of stories to tell us about the local lake of Sandur, and he told us about the local culture of the island of Sandoy as well as the overall culture of the Faroe Islands. The tour was beautiful, and it’s nice to kayak and see the island from the water as the sun was shining and beautiful for most of it. I got stuck a couple of times in the shallows, but our guide was always there to help us out. He even invited us back to his house for coffee/tea/water and showed us what life was like there on the island! We had to catch a ferry, and he told us what time to leave so we would make it on time. All and all, a wonderful experience. Definitely recommend!

We can recommend booking this kayak trip. We were a couple. It has been many years since we both had been in a kayak, but it went really well. Good equipment and easy to get to the water. Poul was very helpful with everything.

You can easily take food and drink with you, as your car is parked right where the kayaks are sent in the water. You can easily take a break from the kayaks and go up to eat and drink, and out into the kayaks again.

A good trip on Sandsvatn 🙂
