Experience the breathtaking mountain scenery in the northern tip of the Faroe Islands hundreds of metres above the beautiful village Viðareiði. This is the perfect hike for those who are looking for an unforgettable and demanding trip in unspoiled nature.

You will be picked up in Tórshavn in the morning. From Tórshavn, you will head north to the most northernly village in the Faroe Islands, Viðareiði on the island of Viðoy.

From Viðareiði you will start your hike up to the top of the third highest mountain of the Faroe Islands. The impressive mount Villingadalsfjall elevates 841 m above the North Atlantic Ocean.

The hike from the village Viðareiði to the summit takes 2 hours. You will enjoy an impressive view over all the northern islands along the route to the summit. Expect panoramic views of the islands Fugloy, Svínoy, Borðoy, Kunoy, and Kallsoy.

It is a quite steep hike but your local tour guide will make sure that you are safe at all time. The view is rewarding!

When on the peak, you will be served a delicious packed lunch. Enjoying a sandwich and refreshments in these other worldly surroundings is as epic as it gets.

From the top of Villingadalsfjall you have a splendid view over the beautiful Villingadalur valley on the north side. This iconic mountain is definitely worth all the effort in order to get to the top.

Once you have soaked in the view and fresh air on Villingadalsfjall, you will start descending the mountain. The path goes downhill all the time. You will have some short breaks on the route to have some rest and to benefit from the breathtaking views right in front of you.

Back in the village, you will take the one hour drive back to Tórshavn. Your tour guide will drop you off at the end of the day.

Immerse yourself in the unspoiled nature in the Faroe Islands with this adventurous hiking tour to Villingadalsfjall. Check availability by choosing a date.

Randi is a knowledgeable, charismatic guide who crafted a gorgeous secret hike for us across the islands when we deemed it too wet and foggy in the first mountains. I loved her stories about witches and sorcerers in addition to her talks about the history of the Faroe Islands. The sandwiches she provided were great! If I have an opportunity for another hiking tour, I’ll definitely go with Randi!

  2. Melanie Sandlarz

The hike wasn’t possible that day because of the wind, however Randi came up with an alternative and while we didn’t do the original hike, I had a wonderful time. Randi is very knowledgeable about the area and a great tour guide.

  3. Asana Kusnadi

It was on october 4th, the wind gusts were insane. Although randi and i made it to the foot of the mountain, she put the safety first and took me for plan-B hike. We drove to Klaksvik viewpoint and Kirkjubour. The experience was awesome and we had an amazing conversation throughout in which she explain about culture, legends, and social life of Faroese. I would recommend hiking with Randi

I had a most exquisite experience with Randi today—she just dropped me off after a full day of hiking and great food. She was absolutely wonderful—a wealth of information and a great “Plan B” after clouds and rain prevented us from making it tot he top of Villinggardalsfjall. Truly, she was a gem and I’m grateful to have had her as a guide today.

Randi was top notch—I can’t say enough good things about her and all the rich knowledge and history she shared about the Faroes. She must be one of your top guides to be proud of!
