Kaldbaksfjørður is a fjord in the wild Faroe Islands. The fjord sits in beautiful surroundings on Streymoy Island.

There are hundreds of small streams running down the mountain sides and into Kaldbaksfjørður the most prominent being Týggjará Waterfall. The fjord is easy to reach all year round.

You can enjoy the whole fjord along the seaside when driving in the Faroe Islands. When entering the capital Tórshavn, you will see the fjord one way or another.

Either you will drive along the fjord before reaching the capital or you will have the fjord beneath you from the mountain route Oyggjarvegur. Whilst the first route will take you along stunning small waterfalls and streams, the latter route provides epic perspectives of the natural surroundings.

Where to take photos of Kaldbaksfjørður

The best place to photograph the fjord is from the Mjørkadalur Prison. This is the one and only jail in the Faroe Islands. The views prisoners get behind the bars might be the best anywhere.

Make sure to take in these views yourself next to the road. The prison is easy to recognise with its turf-roof. There is a parking lot next to the road where you can pull-off and soak in the scenery.
