Klakkur is a panoramic vantage point in the nature-filled Faroe Islands. Located on Borðoy Island, the views you get here are among the most beautiful in the archipelago.

This attraction lies only a short hike from second largest town in the island group, Klaksvík. Klakkur is a popular sight for travellers when in the northern islands in the Faroe Islands. This towering mountain ridge is found a comfortable 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the capital, Tórshavn.

Getting to Klakkur

Klakkur is popular especially among landscape photographers. In order to get to Klakkur from the town Klaksvík, you will take the gravel road Niðan Horn. At the end of the road there is a small lake. You can park your vehicle just before getting to the lake.

There is a gate near the lake, go through the gate. You will go through a second wooden gate later. Then you go up a steady incline with stairs and after a while you will get to the base of a hill. From here, you go straight up and you will reach Klakkur.

The rewarding view from Klakkur requires very little effort. An evening hike to this attraction makes for great sunsets.

When standing on the mountain ridge, you will see the entire Kalsoy Island and the front of Kunoy Island. You can also follow the ferry to Kalsoy Island as it finds it way from Klaksvík to the harbour in Syðradalur on Kalsoy Island.

Ask any local in Klaksvík about a great walk near the town and most people will point up the mountain to the towering rocky ridge. The attraction site just above Klaksvík.

The route from Klaksvík to Klakkur is called ‘Ástarbreytin’ by the locals. This translates into ‘the love path’. When going romantic, take your loved one up to the panoramic vista just like the locals do.
