Sørvágur is a village on Vágar Island in the beautiful Faroe Islands. The village lies right next to the only airport in the archipelago.

Vágar Airport is only a 2-minutes drive from Sørvágur. While planes are approaching the runway on Vágar Island, they fly over the village just seconds before they land.

Sørvágur is located at the end of the island’s deepest fjord, Sørvágsfjørður.

The salmon farming company Hiddenfjord has its headquarters in the village. You can see the salmon jumping in the pens in the pristine fjord.

What to see and do in Sørvágur

The village is home to several shops including a grocery store and a gas station. There are also cafés for those looking for a cup of tea or coffee.

There is a long sandy beach in the middle of the village, below many colourful houses.

From the hillside above the village, you can get a beautiful view over Sørvágsfjørður Fjord and Mykines Island out in the horizon.

Parking in Sørvágur is free of charge. With lots of parking lots located various places in the village, finding a spot is always easy.

Nearby villages are Bøur and Gásadalur. It takes only a few minutes to drive to these attractions along the Sørvágsfjørður Fjord.

Sørvágur is the village from where boats to the Drangarnir Sea Arch depart. This striking rock formation shooting out from the North Atlantic Ocean is iconic.
